Did You Know? Koalas Have Fingerprints Almost Identical to Humans!
Koala fingerprints are so similar to human ones that they could confuse crime scene investigators!
Koalas Have Human-Like Fingerprints! 🐨
This is wild: koala fingerprints look almost identical to human fingerprints!
Even under a microscope, koala prints have the same loops, whorls, and arches as ours. Scientists think this happened through convergent evolution — koalas developed fingerprints separately from primates because both species needed to grip things tightly (koalas grip tree branches). The resemblance is so close that forensic experts have said koala prints could theoretically be confused with human prints at a crime scene!
Finger Art Time 🎨
Make fingerprint art! Press your thumb in washable ink and stamp it on paper, then draw a koala face on it. Ask your kids: “If a koala left fingerprints at a cookie jar crime scene, how would you catch the real thief?”
Fun fact bonus: Despite looking like bears, koalas are actually marsupials — more closely related to kangaroos and wombats! 🦘
