Did You Know? Red Is the First Color a Baby Sees!

Newborns can only see black, white, and gray at first — red is the first color they can distinguish!

Red Is the First Color Babies See! ❤️

When babies are born, their world is mostly in black and white!

Newborns’ eyes aren’t fully developed yet, so they can only see high-contrast things like light and dark. The first real color they learn to see is red, usually around 2-3 months old. This is because red has the longest wavelength of visible light, making it the easiest color for developing eyes to detect. That’s why so many baby toys are red!

Baby Colors Art 🎨

Draw what the world might look like to a baby: first in black and white, then with just red, then adding more and more colors! Ask your kids: “Imagine seeing color for the very first time — which color would amaze you most?”

Fun fact bonus: By 5 months old, most babies can see the full rainbow of colors — though they might not know the names yet! 🌈
