Ancient Egyptians Invented Colored Inks! 🏺
The next time you pick up a colored pen, thank the ancient Egyptians: they invented colored inks over 4,500 years ago!
They made black ink from soot (burned wood) and red ink from ochre (a type of clay). They also created blue, green, and yellow inks from crushed minerals and plants. These inks were so well made that we can STILL see their vibrant colors on papyrus and tomb walls today, thousands of years later!
Ancient Art Time 🎨
Draw like an Egyptian! Use only red, blue, yellow, green, and black to create an Egyptian-style scene with pyramids and hieroglyphs. Ask your kids: “If you could only use 5 colors forever, which ones would you pick?”
Fun fact bonus: Egyptian Blue was the first ever synthetic pigment — humans made it on purpose around 3,000 BC by mixing sand, copper, and limestone in a hot oven! 🔥
